In a major boost to Balochistan’s public health sector and a significant demonstration of deepening Pakistan-China cooperation, Balochistan government has formally launched a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving maternal and newborn healthcare services across seven districts, with substantial support from the Government of China.

The project, described by officials as a transformative intervention in the province’s healthcare delivery system, will upgrade facilities in as many as 100 medical centers.

According to a Gwadar Pro's report, these upgrades are expected to enhance access to quality care for mothers and infants, particularly in underserved and remote areas where healthcare indicators have historically lagged behind the national averages.

“We are deeply grateful to the Government of China for this vital collaboration,” Balochistan’s Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said in a statement, adding that the project underscores the strength of bilateral ties and places maternal and child health at the forefront of provincial priorities.

Health officials explained that the program is designed not only to upgrade infrastructure but also to elevate service delivery standards, ensuring that expectant mothers and newborns receive timely and effective medical attention.

The initiative will also contribute to reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, a longstanding challenge in Balochistan.
