September 14, 2023

In a remarkable and puzzling revelation, 36-year-old Tran Thi Luu from Qu?ng Ngãi, Vietnam, has come forward with a startling claim – she hasn't experienced a night of sleep in over 11 years. Her story has ignited widespread discussions on social media, leaving many in awe and disbelief. Ms. Luu, a dedicated preschool worker, has become the center of attention in Vietnam, shedding light on her enduring struggle with insomnia that has lasted for more than a decade. In a recent interview, she recounted the strange onset of her insomnia, which began with an inexplicable crying episode. Tears streamed from her eyes without any apparent cause, defying attempts to halt the flow. As the unusual crying subsided, it gave way to another distressing problem – she could no longer sleep. Despite her exhaustion, her mind remained relentlessly awake. For the past 11 years, Luu has spent her nights lying down with closed eyes, while her family sleeps soundly around her.

In her own words, Tran Thi Luu stated, "The story of me not sleeping for 11 years is true, not made up or embellished to 'get likes' or 'get views'! If you look closely, you can see the effects. There are dark circles around my eyes, and the skin around them is also very dark. But before that, I was white and pink and had no blemishes on my face." Luu credited her husband for providing unwavering support during this challenging period. Despite his nightly encouragement to relax and sleep, Luu found herself unable to do so. This relentless struggle prompted her to seek professional help.

The 36-year-old woman sought assistance at Quang Ngai Provincial Mental Hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with severe insomnia. Medication was prescribed to her, albeit with debilitating side effects that included severe leg pain. Despite the physical agony, her desperate desire for sleep drove her to take the medication. However, the high cost and severe side effects eventually forced her to discontinue its use.
