There is an atmosphere of commotion due to the arrest of five people including two Muslim women in village Qatran of Menhnagar Tehsil of Azamgarh district. Two women, including Shahid and Salman Sohrab, residents of Qatran village have been arrested by the local police on the charge of cow slaughter. Both women are said to be 17 and 18 years old respectively. The police have recovered four quintals of fresh meat and some goods from the accused. Since this incident, there is a wave of fear in the whole village and some villagers have reportedly fled the village.
A person on condition of anonymity said that we were engaged in Taraweeh (Ramzan’s prayer) after Isha prayer when a team 15 policemen raided and arrested the people present on the spot.The police also arrested the women. In this case, the victims families have requested help from the NGO’s and political parties. The issue is very sensitive as it involves arrest of young Muslim women.
