Two planes collide on runway at US airportBreaking

September 11, 2024

Two planes collided on the runway at Atlanta Airport in Georgia, USA. Photos shared on social media showed that the tail of one of the aircraft had been partially severed. Delta Air Lines confirmed that one of its planes collided with a regional jet while taxiing for departure, resulting in damage to both aircraft. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and Delta announced that affected passengers would be rebooked on other flights. The airline explained that the wing of a Delta Airbus A350, which was preparing to depart for Tokyo-Haneda, came into contact with the tail of an Endeavor Air CRJ-900, which was scheduled to depart for Lafayette, Louisiana.

Endeavor Air is a subsidiary of Delta. The collision caused damage to the regional jet's tail and the A350's wing. A passenger aboard one of the planes tweeted about the incident, describing it as "very jarring," with "metal scraping sounds followed by loud bangs." The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has stated that it will investigate the collision. This incident follows a similar event earlier this year at London’s Heathrow Airport, where two planes collided. An empty Virgin Atlantic 787, being towed from Terminal 3, clipped the wingtip of a stationary British Airways Airbus A350. Video footage showed minor damage to the planes, and no passengers were injured in the collision.
