Transporters observe strike in Rajouri and PoonchBreaking

August 11, 2026

Transporters in Rajouri and Poonch districts of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir observed a complete strike on Monday to protest against their long-pending demands. According to Kashmir Media Service, bus and tempo unions held a "wheel-jam" in Rajouri, Poonch and Jammu, rendering public transport non-operational and causing severe inconvenience to commuters in the Pir Panjal region.

Buses and tempo travelers from the Jammu Bus Stand also remained off the road. Passengers were forced to hire cabs and taxis to reach their destinations. Reports said the unions have been facing multiple problems for a long time. Despite taking up the issues with the concerned authorities, the same remained unresolved. Bus stands in Rajouri and Poonch also witnessed brief protests by transport operators.

Transporters in Poonch said that small vehicles are ferrying passengers from Jammu to Rajouri and Poonch, which they termed as "injustice" with them. They further alleged that many vehicles are plying without valid permits.  Meanwhile, a delegation of transporters met Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Poonch and submitted a memorandum regarding their demands.
