At least three church leaders were killed and several others injured when suspected members of the ZUF-Kamson faction ambushed a group of Thadou Baptist Association (TBA) leaders between Kotzim and Kotlen villages in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, on Wednesday.According to Kashmir Media Service, the leaders were returning to Kangpokpi from Churachandpur after attending the United Baptist Convention conference in Lamka when they were attacked near Zero Point/Saheibung Peak.

Among those killed was Rev. V. Sitlhou, former General Secretary of the Manipur Baptist Convention and current President of the Thadou Baptist Association. Two other pastors also died at the scene. The injured were identified as Rev. SM Haopu, Rev. Hekai Simte, Rev. Kaigoulun, Rev. Paothang, Pastor Paogou, and drivers Lelen and Goumang. The group was travelling in two vehicles when intercepted by armed assailants.

The attack drew condemnation from Kuki-Zo organisations and church bodies, who called it “unprovoked aggression” against religious leaders. Kuki Inpi Manipur warned that failure to act could lead to highway blockades in Kuki-dominated areas. The ambush comes amid continuing tensions in Manipur following the ethnic violence that erupted in May 2023.
