January 28, 2023

In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, hundreds of ‘Rehbar-e-Khel’ teachers staged a protest in Jammu, seeking reduction in their probationary period from 7 years to 5 years as well as freezing of posts which was recently de-freezed by the authorities. According to Kashmir Media Service, the teachers, who have been agitating for the last 29 days in front of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Headquarters, Trikuta Nagar (Jammu), demanded of the authorities to fulfill their demands.

They also raised high-pitched slogans in support of their demands and asked the administration not to test their patience. Rehbar-e-Khel Teachers Association President Dheeraj Salaria on the occasion said “We have completed four years of service and want the authorities to fulfill their promise of regularizing our services after five years as was done with ‘Rehbar-e-Taleem’ teachers.”

He said the authorities have failed to lend an ear to their grievances despite the fact that more than 2,500 teachers have hit the streets over the issue. “We are getting only Rs 4000 per month and it is very difficult to meet the needs of our families with such a meager amount, especially when inflation has gone up manifold,” Salaria said. He asserted that the protest will continue till their demand is met.
