Ruhullah Mehdi to move impeachment motion against Allahabad judgeBreaking

December 11, 2024

National Conference MP Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has announced plans to move an impeachment motion in Indian Parliament to remove Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court, stating that he violated judicial conduct with remarks made against Muslims at a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) event. According to Kashmir Media Service, Justice Yadav, while speaking at the VHP event, reportedly stated that India must be governed according to the whims of the Hindu majority. He also made highly controversial comments, claiming that Hindu children are peaceful and tolerant, while Muslim children are violent from birth. He further added that such individuals were "dangerous to the nation" and against the India's progress.

Ruhullah has begun the process of gathering the required 100 signatures for the impeachment motion, with support already confirmed from several prominent political figures. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Samajwadi Party MPs Zia ur Rehman and Mohibbullah, Sudama Prasad from CPI, and Rajkumar Roat from the Bharat Adivasi Party have all pledged their backing. Ruhullah has also reached out to members of Congress, DMK, Trinamool Congress, and other like-minded parties, expressing optimism about their support. In the motion, Ruhullah argues that Justice Yadav’s continued tenure as a judge undermines the integrity, impartiality, and secular values of the judiciary.

He specifically criticized the judge's statements regarding Hindu supremacy, which he said, challenge the secular fabric enshrined in the Indian Constitution's Preamble and Article 25. Ruhullah further condemned the judge's remarks that suggested Muslims, particularly those who slaughter animals, cannot raise good children, accusing him of harboring a virulent bias against the community. He added that such comments dehumanize Muslims and present them as anti-national. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ruhullah expressed confidence that parties supporting India's foundational principles of secularism and democracy would back the motion, adding that it is crucial to protect the integrity of the judiciary and uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution.
