Protesters target temples in Bangladesh to express anger on IndiaBreaking

August 07, 2024

Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina escape has intensified protests in Bangladesh as protesters intensified violent attacks on Hindu temples and Hindus residences to show their anger on India backing towards Hasina Wajid. Although there was no justification to attack religious sites and the mob should not put the lives of Hindu residents in danger. The public anger of Bengalis toward India reveals frustration over perceived interference, leading to demands for India to re-evaluate its policies towards Dhaka. The protesters carried out attacks on Hindu residences and temples in Bangladesh including Nawakhali, Meherpur, and Kali temples.

In West Bengal, the rage has resulted in deadly fights as Bengalis threw stones at Hindu residences and chanted insulting phrases about India. The vandalism of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's statues reflects the general anger against Sheikh Hasina's repressive policies towards the masses including cutting down the students’ quotas and diminishing employment opportunities. The public's anger also reflects the Indian-influenced Bangladesh Awami League's policies that deprived people of their basic rights. India's political investments in Bangladesh, which were meant to advance its own interests, are now backfiring, causing  India to refrain from interfering in other countries' internal affairs.
