Ottawa's support for Khalistan referendum deals a severe blow to Modi govt Breaking

November 19, 2025

The legal support granted to the Khalistan referendum by the Canadian government has exposed the diplomatic failures of the Modi administration, delivering a significant blow to New Delhi's global standing.  Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the leader of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), announced the official approval of the Canadian government for the Khalistan referendum. He confirmed that the referendum would take place on November 23, aiming to liberate Punjab from Indian occupation.

The Canadian government's authorization paves the way for the event, which will be held at Billings Estate, Ottawa, on November 23. Pannun emphasized that this official approval underscores Canada's commitment to freedom of expression, political participation, and democratic values.  Pannun further said that the referendum represents a peaceful struggle through voting, as opposed to bullets, to secure Punjab's freedom from Indian control.

He encouraged members of the Sikh community to fully exercise their right to vote in the referendum for the liberation of Punjab. Additionally, he revealed that Sikhs for Justice had provided the Canadian government with detailed information regarding the threats posed by India to the Khalistan movement.   British intelligence has also exposed a chilling plot by Indian agents to assassinate Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was gunned down near his home in Vancouver in June 2023.

The assassination sparked diplomatic storm between Canada and India.  By supporting the Khalistan cause, Canada has sent a clear message that the Modi regime, which is a violator of human and democratic rights, cannot escape scrutiny. Canada's endorsement of the Khalistan movement has further highlighted Modi government's growing internal and external failures.
