A 48-year-old Muslim man was brutally beaten to death by a Hindutva mob after he resisted having colours thrown on him during Holi in BJP-led Uttar Pradesh state of India. The deceased has been identified as Sharif, a resident of Qasim Nagar, Unnao. He had been working as a driver in Saudi Arabia and had returned home two months ago. Eyewitnesses stated that Sharif was heading to the mosque from his ancestral home, when a Hindutva group celebrating Holi came across and threw colours on him.
The act was repeated leading to a heated argument that quickly escalated into a physical attack. The Hindutva group assaulted Sharif and he died on the spot. The incident has sparked tensions in the area, leading to a heavy police presence, including Rapid Response Teams from multiple stations. Residents took to the streets, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible.
