The Leh Apex Body has accepted the resignation of its chairman Thupstan Chhewang ahead of crucial May 22 talks with the Indian Home Ministry. According to Kashmir Media Service, Chhewang had stepped down in July last year citing health and personal reasons and had missed key meetings since July 6, 2025.
The Apex Body said differences had emerged with other members during high-level meetings with the Ladakh LG and Indian Home Minister. Members urged him to continue as a primary member, citing his “invaluable contribution” to Ladakh’s cause. The May 22 talks will be the first since Vinai Kumar Saxena took charge as LG, with statehood and Sixth Schedule inclusion among key demands.
