Hurriyat leaders and organizations have condemned Indian government for building mega power projects in Kishtwar in violation of the Indus Water Treaty, besides being exploitation of the Kashmiris’ resources. The leaders and organizations made the statement in reaction to the announcement by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Indian Minister of State, that New Delhi is going to complete the region’s major power projects, generating around 6,000 MW in Kishtwar. They said that New Delhi is using land and resources of Kashmir, while benefits go directly to the Indian states. Kashmiris, they added, are deprived of locally generated electricity.
The Hurriyat leaders and organizations said that while abrogating Article 370, the Modi regime had made tall claims of ushering in a period of development and prosperity, which, the Kashmiri people are witnessing in terms of unending raids, crackdowns and cordon and search operations in the territory. The leaders and organizations said that Kashmiri people are facing long spells of power shutdowns while being forced to pay hefty bills generated by newly-installed smart meters.
