Kashmir transporters threaten indefinite strike from May 12 over exploitationBreaking

May 07, 2026

Transporters in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have announced an indefinite strike from May 12, warning of a complete halt in public transport if the BJP-led administration fails to address their demands. According to Kashmir Media Service, Transport Association Kashmir President Shabir Matta told reporters in Srinagar that the decision follows continued “inaction” by authorities despite repeated outreach after the Valley-wide “chakka jam” on April 20.

“We have given the government time till May 11. If our genuine demands are not met, the entire Kashmir will observe a wheel-jam strike from May 12,” Matta said. He added that transporters from South, North, and Central Kashmir had tried to engage the administration but received no response.
