October 21, 2024

A delegation from Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (JUH) was prevented by the BJP government from meeting Muslim victims of recent communal violence in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. According to Kashmir Media Service, the JUH delegation, led by General Secretary Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi, was detained at Lucknow airport and instructed to return to Delhi. JUH Secretary Niyaz Ahmed Faruqi stated that the delegation aimed to provide support and assess the situation of those affected by violence instigated by Hindutva forces. The organization emphasized its commitment to peace and assistance for all oppressed communities, regardless of religion.

Additionally, Samajwadi Party leader Mata Prasad Pandey was also barred from entering the district, as authorities warned that the situation could deteriorate further. Violence erupted in Maharajganj after a young man was shot dead following a flag dispute, resulting in incidents of arson and vandalism against Muslim properties. Authorities have since suspended internet services and issued demolition notices to several Muslim families, further escalating tensions in the region.
