India’s diplomatic blow as New Delhi welcomes fugitive HasinaBreaking

August 07, 2024

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is facing yet another diplomatic blow as Sheikh Hasina's governance in Bangladesh collapsed and as per latest reports Bangladesh Army is in talks with the student protesters for the formation of the new government. Sheikh Hasina was long lasting ally of India and her government’s harsh policies and human rights violations sparked widespread outrage in Dhaka and other cities of Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina's government in Bangladesh has faced a disastrous end, showing a problematic alignment between her government and Modi's. The partnership was further exposed when Hasina, who is now a fugitive, received a grand welcome upon arriving in India by Indian advisor Ajit Doval and senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs. India has frequently used Bangladesh for political purposes, with Hasina being viewed as an extension of Indian interests, enacting policies that have had a negative impact on her own people.

Her tenure saw numerous injustices, including the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and the detention of opposition figures merely for their support of the party. The animosity sown by India and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1971 has grown into major hostility, with Hasina seeking safety in the same Agartala from where her anti-Pakistan conspiracies began. Under her control, the Bangladeshi people's independence was restricted through the influence of the Indian agency RAW, resulting in massive violence. The current unrest in Bangladesh, which has killed hundreds, highlights India's involvement in the problem. In response to these developments, the Bangladeshi people have decisively rejected the partnership, sending a strong message to India and marking a shift in their stance against foreign involvement.
