India-US trade deal 'death warrant' for farmers, warns Gurnam CharuniBreaking

March 24, 2026

The proposed India-US trade deal has raise fear among farmers, with Bharatiya Kisan Union (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh Charuni warning that it will be a "death warrant" for the country's agricultural sector.  Addressing a rally in Kurukshetra, Charuni said that the agreement will hand over agriculture to corporate houses, leaving farmers at their mercy.

Charuni claimed that farmers are already struggling to get minimum support prices (MSPs) for their produce and that the deal will lead to the closure of grain markets, further exploiting farmers. He warned of a massive agitation if the government signs the deal, saying farmers will not let BJP leaders enter their villages.

The rally, attended by farmers from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand, also saw demands for a legal guarantee on MSP, farm loan waivers, and better compensation for crop losses. Union leaders said the BJP government is compromising farmers' interests under external pressure.

BKU (Charuni) spokesperson Rakesh Bains announced that a meeting with the Chief Minister has been scheduled for April 2 to discuss the issue. If the assurance is not honored, the union will launch a massive agitation.
