January 07, 2025

Five cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), a respiratory pathogen, have been reported in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat, marking the first instances of the virus in India. According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian Health Minister J.P. Nadda while confirming the cases emphasized the government’s vigilance. HMPV, first identified in 2001, causes respiratory infections and spreads through the air. While all affected children are recovering, health experts urged heightened surveillance. Delhi hospitals have been directed to prepare for potential respiratory illness surges. Nadda confirmed no unusual rise in respiratory virus cases across India.
