Heavy restrictions imposed, searches underway in Shopian ahead of Sinha’s visitBreaking

May 14, 2026

In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP-led administration imposed heavy restrictions, intensified checking and movement curbs across Shopian district ahead of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s visit today, causing severe inconvenience and fear among local residents.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian police and paramilitary personnel are deployed in large numbers on major roads and intersections in Shopian where barricades, checkpoints and frisking points are set up as part of extraordinary measures linked to Sinha’s visit. Witnesses said civilians, commuters and youth are being subjected to repeated body searches, identity checks and vehicle inspections while movement on several routes remained heavily restricted for hours.

Residents complained that normal life has been disrupted as people are forced to face long delays, harassment and unnecessary questioning by Indian forces. Traffic Police issued a diversion plan, rerouting vehicles through multiple interior roads and villages, while movement between DPL Crossing Shopian and District Court Crossing remained tightly regulated from morning till afternoon.

Authorities advised people to avoid travel on key roads during the visit. Local residents said such large-scale restrictions and security lockdowns expose the reality of the so-called “normalcy” repeatedly claimed by the Modi regime in the occupied territory. They said every visit by senior Indian officials turns civilian areas into militarized zones where ordinary Kashmiris are treated as suspects in their own homeland.
