According to international media, the country's Ministry of Interior said that the number of people who died in the floods in Kenya has reached 228. Earlier there were 179 deaths. Flooding also affected the Masai Mara Safari Park in western Kenya, where groups of tourists in hotels were swept away by the overflowing Telek River. A landslide close to Mai Mahio the village in the country's center earlier in the day claimed 46 lives. The ministry released a statement stating that landslides and mudslides may occur in mountainous areas and that the situation is expected to deteriorate in low-lying and coastal areas. It should be noted that months of flooding in Kenya have destroyed houses, roads and bridges and displaced more than 210,000 people. The rains have also affected other East African countries. Floods and landslides in neighboring Tanzania have killed 155 people. Deaths and significant damage have been reported in Uganda and Burundi.
