After protests by regular Indian soldiers on many occasions in the past, be it against mistreatment at the hands of seniors or be it poor food quality, now Indian army’s ex-servicemen have also come out of their houses, especially in Rajouri and Poonch districts to raise voice in favour of their demands.

A protest march was taken out in Rajouri town in front of the Deputy Commissioner office while hundreds of ex-servicemen gathered in Nowshera town and submitted a written memorandum to the Additional Deputy Commissioner. These ex-servicemen raised slogans in favour of their demands. Vijay Sharma while leading the protest march in Nowshera said that ex-servicemen are waiting for the concrete policy towards betterment.

Earlier, serving Indian soldiers have held protests on many occasions against pathetic conditions. A soldier of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) captured social media attention in the recent past after he posted videos on Facebook showing the horrible condition of the food he and his fellow troopers are served while on duty.

“We get one paratha for breakfast in the morning and we have to eat it just with tea. There are times when we are forced to sleep on an empty stomach,” Tej Bahadur Yadav said in one of the four videos he posted on the social networking portal. “This dal just has turmeric and salt, but no taste,” he said, showing a watery lentil curry and under-cooked rotis. “The stores are always brimming. The top administration, however, sells it all in the market and pockets the money,” he said.
