150 families living in Kattukollai village in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore district for the past four generations and possess valid documents have been issued eviction notices claiming that they have been living on Waqf property.  These families have now approached the Vellore District Collector seeking urgent intervention in the issue.

The move comes just weeks after both houses of Indian Parliament passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill to “enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in managing Waqf properties.”  The notices have been issued by the Waqf Board of the dargah, which is no more in control of local Muslims.
