The Pak-China Technical & Vocational Institute (PCT&VI) is a shining example of productive synergy between the two closely-knit nations in educational excellence and vocational training. Dr Talat Shabbir, Director of China Pakistan Study Centre, Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), said this while talking to WealthPK. "The establishment of Pakistan-China Technical Vocational Institute in Gwadar holds significant importance in the context of imparting technical training and vocational skills to the youth of Balochistan province, with particular focus on the burgeoning port city of Gwadar," he said. He was of the view that this initiative represented a beacon of hope for the region, addressing several critical aspects of education, skills development, and economic progress.
"Shandong Institute of Commerce and Technology (SICT), Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), University of Gwadar (UoG), and China Overseas Ports Holding Company (COPHC) inked the operational agreement which serves as a testament to the collaborative efforts and shared vision of various stakeholders in promoting education and skills development in Gwadar," he said. One of the most striking features of the institute is its commitment to providing free-of-cost educational programs. These programs include six-month short courses and three-year diploma programs. This accessibility ensures that education is not limited by financial constraints, promoting inclusivity and giving every student an equal chance to acquire valuable skills and knowledge.
He added, "The graduated students would have golden opportunities to get employment in Gwadar Port, Free Zone Industry, and other projects of CPEC." Gwadar has recently witnessed a wave of development projects opening new avenues of employment and business, he said. Talking to WealthPK, Dr. Liaqat Ali Shah, Executive Director and Head of Policy Division at the CPEC, said one of the most significant factors of the BRI was the progress of underdeveloped areas in both countries, namely the Balochistan province of Pakistan and Xinjiang of China.
"With the CPEC Phase-2, Gwadar is poised to undergo a significant transformation into a hub for various industrial sectors. These sectors include manufacturing units for automobiles, mobile phones, textiles, and more. The expansion of industrial activities in Gwadar is expected to drive economic growth and create numerous job opportunities," he said. "The growth of these industries brings with it an increased demand for skilled professionals who are well-versed in the latest technologies and techniques specific to each sector. This includes individuals with expertise in engineering, manufacturing, electronics, and textiles," he opined.
"The Pak-China Technical Vocational Institute is well-positioned to meet this demand. The institute's primary focus on technical and vocational education equips the students with practical skills that are directly applicable to these emerging industries. It prepares them to be job-ready and contribute effectively to the workforce," he stated.
