Field Marshal Asim Munir and PM Shahbaz Sharif Avoided WW3Breaking

April 21, 2026

Pakistan has once again taken on an important diplomatic role. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif talked on the phone with Antonio Costa, the President of the European Council, about the expected talks between Iran and the United States that may take place in Islamabad. The conversation brought up how Pakistan is becoming more involved in efforts to lower tensions in the Middle East through peaceful engagement and dialogue.

During the call, both leaders talked about the most recent events in the region, focusing on the efforts by other countries to get Tehran and Washington to talk to each other. Costa was told by Prime Minister Shehbaz that Pakistan is working hard to help both countries get back to meaningful talks. He stressed that Pakistan will continue to support any effort that can bring peace and stability to the area.

Antonio Costa praised Islamabad's efforts to promote diplomacy at a delicate time and welcomed Pakistan's constructive approach. He said that the European Union backs all serious efforts to lower tensions and make the region more stable. Costa also said that the world is watching the next round of talks closely. He hopes that progress could lead to safer trade routes, including the important Strait of Hormuz, which is still important for the world's energy supplies.

The prime minister thanked the leaders of Europe for their support and said again that diplomacy is the best way to settle international problems. Both leaders agreed to keep in touch as things get worse.

Earlier that day, Prime Minister Shehbaz led an important meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and other high-ranking government officials. The meeting was mostly about how Pakistan's diplomatic strategy should change as the situation in the region changes quickly. Officials talked about the planned talks between Iran and the US and their worries about Iran's reluctance to join the next round of talks.

Mohsin Naqvi told the people who were there about his recent meetings with representatives from both the US and Iran. He talked about what each side was worried about and what they expected. The leaders of Pakistan agreed that they should do everything they can to keep lines of communication open and persuade both sides to keep talking.

Ishaq Dar also talked to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and stressed the importance of keeping diplomatic ties with Washington. He stressed that problems that haven't been solved should be talked about peacefully instead of fighting.

Pakistan's work has also been praised by international partners, such as Australia. Analysts say that more and more people see Pakistan as a trustworthy go-between for Iran and the US. If the talks in Islamabad go well, they could help keep the peace in the region and make the world economy more stable at a time when everyone is paying close attention.
