As 2025 Comes to an End, Balochistan Remembers a Year of BloodshedBreaking

December 31, 2025

As 2025 draws to a close, Balochistan stands as one of the most affected regions in Pakistan, having endured a year marked by deadly attacks, insecurity, and persistent unrest. From high-profile assaults to targeted killings, the province witnessed a series of incidents that kept both citizens and security forces on edge.

The most shocking incident of the year occurred on 11 March 2025, when militants linked to the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) attacked the Jaffar Express passenger train. The train, traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, was ambushed in the Bolan Pass after explosives were used to destroy the railway track. Armed attackers opened fire and held hundreds of passenger hostages. The attack lasted for hours and ended only after a major security operation, making it one of the most serious militant attacks in Pakistan’s recent history.

Soon after, Quetta itself was rocked by a powerful blast, reminding residents that even the provincial capital was not immune to violence. The explosion targeted a busy area and caused casualties, spreading fear across the city, and disrupting daily life.Another heartbreaking incident took place on 21 May 2025 in Khuzdar, where a suicide attack targeted a school bus carrying children. The blast killed several students and injured many others. The attack shocked the entire nation and was widely condemned for targeting innocent children.

Quetta also witnessed a targeted killing of Major Anwar Kakar, a respected army officer, who was assassinated in a militant attack. His death highlighted the continued targeting of security officials and the personal risks faced by those serving in the province. Beyond these major incidents, multiple IED attacks, ambushes on security convoys, and smaller explosions were reported throughout the year in areas such as Mastung, Nushki, and surrounding districts. As 2025 ends, Balochistan’s story remains one of resilience amid suffering—while the hope for peace continues, the scars of this violent year will not fade easily.
