In order to improve quality education in medical institutions, a four-day workshop on Self-Assessment Report (SAR) writing was conducted by the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) of Gajju Khan Medical College (GKMC) of Swabi.
To improve the quality of medical education in the country, the HEC has directed all the medical colleges and their affiliated institutes to assess their performance against a set of criteria developed by it. In that vein, Khyber Medical College Peshawar and its affiliated institutes have been conducting such trainings.
The training was participated by the academic faculty from basic and clinical sciences. Prof Dr Ishtiaq, Head of Medical Education Department and Dr Mohammad Khalid, Director, Quality Enhancement Cell served as the resource persons for this workshop.
Dean/CEO MTI-GKMC/BKMC Swabi, Prof Dr Shams-Ur-Rahman, stressed the need for quality enhancement without which competition at the local and global level was not possible. He directed the participants to attain the performance criteria set by the HEC.
“During the training, the participants were briefed about the importance and need of quality enhancement and quality assurance in medical education,” said director QEC. He also explained the process of quality assurance and quality enhancement. “Throughout the workshop, all the participants actively engaged in group activities for preparing SAR,” said the Director QEC.
The closing session of the workshop was attended by Dr Muhammad Tufail, member of BOG and Prof Dr Shams-Ur-Rahman, the Dean/CEO of MTI-GKMC/BKMC Swabi. During his speech, Dr Tufail lauded the QEC for successfully arranging the workshop. He said that “quality enhancement was a continuous process and helped in attaining and maintaining institutional ranking among medical institutions.”
Efforts of the Director QEC Dr Khalid and Saeed Afsar Assistant Manager Quality Assurance were also highlighted by the Dean of the college in arranging the workshop. He also thanked all the other personnel who were instrumental in making the workshop a reality. “All the necessary support will be provided to QEC for it to improve medical education in GKMC,” he assured.
Participants of the workshop were congratulated by the Dean on the completion of their training. He told them to cooperate with the QEC of the college so that quality can be improved in medical education. He said that the objectives of the program can only be achieved if all members continuously strive to work on quality improvement.
A certificate awarding ceremony was also arranged for the end of the workshop when the participants were given the certificates. Dr Muhammad Tufail and Prof Dr Shams-Ur-Rahman awarded the certificates. Appreciation certificates were also awarded to Prof Dr Ishtiaq Khan, Dr Mohammad Khalid, Saeed Afsar and Mudassar Azam.
