Progress on the World Bank-sponsored projects in the energy sector of the country was assessed during a meeting under the chairmanship of Secretary of Energy and Power, Nisar Ahmad Khan.
Construction work on two hydropower projects - 157 MW Madyan Hydropower Project and 8 MW Gabral Kalam Hydropower Project - will start early next year. An international consultant for the projects has also been acquired. Both these projects are in the Swat district. After completion they will generate a revenue of more than PKR13 billion for the provincial coffers. They will generate a total of 245 MW energy for the provincial needs.
Speaking at the meeting, the secretary of energy expressed his gratitude to the World Bank for providing financial support to the KPK government for the construction of the projects. He said that because of the government’s efforts foreign investment will come into the country now that the country has exited the FATF grey-list. He directed the authorities to complete the projects in the given time-frame.
Special Secretary of Energy Tashfeen Haider, Chief Executive of PEDO Naeem Khan, Chief Engineer of PEDO Shah Hussain and Project Directors of the World Bank were also present at the meeting.
