Raza Khan ISLAMABAD, April 21 (INP-WealthPK): The United States remained the largest export destination for Pakistan in March 2021-22 followed by China and the United Kingdom, according to the ministry of commerce. Pakistan’s exports to US were valued at $621 million in March against $410.4 million during the same month of last year, registering an increase of 51%, reports WealthPK. In a month-on-month comparison, exports to the US grew by 31% in March compared to the preceding month of February, according to the data released by the ministry of commerce. China remained Pakistan’s second-largest export destination during the month under review with an export volume of $251 million. Year on year, however, exports to China decreased by 8% in March against the same month of last year when the export volume was recorded at $272.8 million. Month-on-month, exports to China in March 2022 declined by 11.86% against the previous month (February), when Pakistan’s exports remained at $284.78 million. With an export volume of $166.7 million, the UK remained the third-largest market for Pakistan in March. However, exports to the country slightly fell by 1% in March against the corresponding month of last year. Month-on-month, exports to the UK also declined by 16% in March against the preceding month of February, the ministry of commerce data shows. The Netherlands, United Arab Emirates, Spain, Italy, Bangladesh, Thailand and Afghanistan were among top 10 markets for Pakistani goods in March. In terms of percentage, the highest increase of 204% was recorded in exports to Thailand during the month under review. Exports to Thailand rose to $66.9 million in March from $21.9 million during the same month of last year. Exports to Netherlands, UAE, Spain, Italy, Bangladesh and Malaysia grew by 32%, 39%, 34%, 14%, 33% and 83%, respectively. Exports to Afghanistan decreased by 43% as export volume dropped to $62.1 million during March from $108.6 in the same month of last year. Exports to South Africa, the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia also fell by 2%, 24%, 15% and 52%, respectively. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the country’s total exports were recorded at $2.782 billion in March 2022 against $2.364 billion during the corresponding month of 2021, registering an increase of 17.68%. Pakistan’s combined exports to the US, China and the UK were registered at $1.0387 billion in March, which is 37.33% of the country’s total exports during the month under review. The same countries also remained the top three export markets for Pakistan during February this year. Pakistan’s top exported items in March included textile products, cotton yarn, cereals, rice, chemicals, pharmaceutical products, leather-made garments and sports goods. According to the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), the US, China and the UK also remained Pakistan’s top export destinations during the last fiscal year 2020-21 with export volumes of $5.183 billion, $2.355 billion and $2.076 billion, respectively. UAE, Germany, the Netherlands, Afghanistan, Spain, Italy and Bangladesh were among the country’s top 10 export markets in the last fiscal year. Pakistan’s total exports in 2020-21 were valued at $25.3 billion, the highest ever in any fiscal year.
