US, China, UK Remain Pakistan’s Top Export Markets in February

By Raza Khan ISLAMABAD, March 22 (INP-WealthPk) The United States of America, the United Kingdom and China remained Pakistan’s largest export destinations in February 2022, according to INP-WealthPk. According to the Ministry of Commerce, exports to US rose to $473.78 million in February 2022 from $379.95 million during the same month of last year, registering a growth of 25%. With an increase of 17%, exports to China recorded $284.78 million last month against $242.90 million in the corresponding month of last fiscal year. The UK remained Pakistan’s third largest market with export volume of $198.91 million during the month under review. Exports to the UK in February posted a growth of 27% over the same month of last fiscal year when the export volume was recorded $156.49. The same countries also remained top three export markets for Pakistan during January this year with similar positions. According to the Ministry of Commerce, combined exports to the US, China and the UK in February were recorded $921.56 million, accounting for 32.81% of the total exports in the said month. By volume, exports to the US, China and the UK also grew by $93.92 million, $41.88 million and $42.42 million respectively during the month under review against the same month of last year. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), with the growth of 35.78%, exports during February 2021-2022 rose to $2.808 billion from $2.068 billion during the corresponding month of 2020-21. Total exports during the first eight months (July-Feb) of the current fiscal year rose to $20.547 billion against $16.323 billion in the corresponding months of last fiscal year, with an increase of 25.88%. Netherlands, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Germany, Italy, Spain, Bangladesh and Turkey were among top 10 export destinations for Pakistan in February, according to the Ministry of Commerce. With a massive growth of 118%, exports to UAE were recorded at $164.08 million last month compared to $75.43 million in the corresponding month of 2021. Exports to Netherlands also posted a substantial growth of 94%. The volume of exports to Netherlands remained $182.34 million in February during the current fiscal against 93.91 million during the same period of last year. Exports to Germany rose to $179.23 million during the month under review from $112.08 million in the same month of 2020-21, posting a growth of 60%. Exports to Italy also registered a substantial increase of 102%. Export remained $123.62 million last month as against $61.27 million during the same period of 2020-21. In a statement, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Commerce and Textile Abdul Razak Dawood said exports increased at the rate of $100 million per day in February which was the fastest for any month. According to the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), the US, China and the UK also remained Pakistan top export destinations during the last fiscal year (2020-21) with export volumes of $5.183 billion, $2.355 billion and $2.076 billion respectively. UAE, Germany, Netherlands, Afghanistan, Spain, Italy and Bangladesh were among country’s top ten exports markets in last fiscal year. Pakistan’s total exports in 2020-21 hit a record high of $25.3 billion.
