Up to 50 tonnes of sugarcane per acre possible through technology

February 15, 2023

The latest technology can help sugarcane producers produce 40 to 50 tonnes of sugarcane per acre, according to agricultural specialists, who have recommended growers to utilise it. According to the Agriculture (Extension) Department spokesman, the ideal months for spring sugarcane crop production are February and March. Therefore, the producers should begin sugarcane cultivation right away and finish it up to mid-March because a late seeding might reduce both the quality and the amount of the harvest.

He advised farmers to grow sugarcane as much as possible on their farms because it is Pakistan's fourth most important crop after rice, cotton, and wheat. In addition to meeting household food needs, it will also play a vital role in easing the financial hardship of the producers due to its great market value, he added.

He suggested that farmers cultivate only sugarcane types that have been certified. The sugarcane cultivars CP-77-400, CP-72-2086, CP-43-33, CPF-243, HSF-240, SPSG-26, SPF-213, SPF-245, and COJ-84 are among those that have been approved, the spokesman said. He reiterated that using the newest methods can also significantly increase sugarcane production per acre. The helpline or the Agriculture Department's field workers can provide more information about this, he added.
