An Afghan Railway Authority’s delegation visited the Ministry of Railways to participate in the 8th Trilateral Meeting on the Trans-Afghan Railway Project. The meeting covered the significance of the project, the development of the preliminary technical assessments, and the next steps for starting the feasibility study as soon as possible, a railway spokesman said.
By linking the network of Pakistan Railways with the already-existing railway link at Mazar-e-Sharif, the planned project will link Pakistan with the Central Asian countries, he said. Along with facilitating trade between the participating countries on a regional and bilateral level, it would also improve people-to-people ties throughout the whole region, he added.
The meeting was co-chaired by Syed Mazhar Ali Shah, Additional Secretary, Railway from Pakistan, Alhaaj Mullah Bakht-ur-Rahman Sharafat, head of railway from Afghanistan, and Acting Deputy Chairman from Uzbekistan, Kamalov Akmal Saydakabarovich, who participated via video link.
