Senator calls for making climate change part of curriculum

January 19, 2023

Senate Deputy Chairman Mirza Muhammad Afridi has stressed the significance of including global warming and climate change in the curriculum to educate children about the effects of shifting weather patterns. While presiding over a seminar on climate change, he said that it is crucial to integrate climate change education into the core of the educational system in order to prevent the impending dangers of this phenomenon by educating the youth. The seminar, sponsored by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Parliamentary Development Unit (PDU), was designed to inform legislators about the effects of climate change and possible solutions. Every member of society has a responsibility to do all he can to lessen the impact of climate change.

In that sense, the youth's role as an agent of change and creativity is vital, he said. In order for Pakistan to help lessen the severe environmental threat it faces, Dr. Imran Khalid, Director of Policy and Governance, WWF, emphasised the importance of implementing climate policies. According to Dr. Hammad Naqi Khan, Director General of the WWF, Pakistan must move toward alternative energy sources in order to combat environmental destruction. He emphasised that Pakistan must engage with China for the transfer of cutting-edge technologies. It is imperative that we take control of our own survival and develop and abide by regulations regarding the management of medical waste, the destruction of forests, and the use of renewable energy.
