Rs 1.17 per unit power tariff increase likely for January

February 22, 2023

The Central Power Purchasing Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G), under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism, has requested an increase in the electricity rate of Rs 1.17 per unit. The CPPA-G stated in a petition on behalf of XWAPDA power distribution companies (DISCOs) to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority that the real cost remained at Rs 11.7269 per unit compared to the reference fuel prices of Rs 10.5541 per unit during January.

During the aforementioned time, 8,514.85 GWh of power worth Rs 95.388 billion was produced, whereas 8,185.98 GWh of net electricity was given to the DISCOs. It may be noted that about 13.46% of the overall generation of furnace oil comes from local gas, 15.10% from RLNG, 22.03% from nuclear power, and 3.37% from wind. The regulator will convene a public hearing on February 28. All consumer categories would be affected by the proposed rise except for lifeline.
