A number of federal, provincial, and private bodies owe a sum of Rs. 9.89 billion to Pakistan Railways as part of its services provided to them. According to the minister of railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Pakistan Railways has contacted the aforementioned departments in order to recover the unpaid billions of rupees as soon as possible.
The AGPR, the Pakistan Post Office, the Works Department, the State Bank of Pakistan, and the Postmaster General (Freight) are among the federal agencies that owe money to the railways. While the autonomous and private bodies included Pakistan State Oil, WAPDA, oil companies (Shell Chevron), public-private partnerships (Business Express and Shalimar Express Night Coach, Bolan Express), irrigation, police, and town municipal authorities. The provincial institutions included the department of food, provincial highways, and irrigation.
It was said that the aforementioned federal departments must pay a total of Rs. 1.17 billion, while provincial departments must pay Rs. 2.44 billion. The remaining amount owed by autonomous and private bodies is Rs. 6.26 billion. On the directives of Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, the Ministry has approached federal and provincial departments to recover the outstanding amount.
