Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) have announced to hold a tourism event “Festival of North” in Gilgit- Baltistan, to promote the local culture and generate business activities for its people.
The first-ever four-day festival will be held in Gojal region from October 20 to 23, 2022, PTDC Managing Director Aftab-ur-Rehman Rana and SMEDA Chief Executive Officer Hashim Raza said addressing a joint press conference.
The PTDC managing director said that the event will be organized every year in October, to empower the local community with tourism because they cannot interact with tourists during the summer season.
Autumn is the right time to visit these areas when the locals are available to interact with tourists, which will provide an opportunity to explore the local culture, Aftab Rana said.
The event will offer several activities such as local product stalls depicting the tradition and culture of different areas, food stalls, live cooking, sports competitions, storytelling and much more at multiple locations in the Gojal region, he added.
The PTDC managing director said the main event will be held at Passu. The festival will support small and medium enterprise businesses in this region through the development and promotion of the tourism and hospitality sector and its allied industries.
He said the event will offer a great opportunity for local and international tourists, tour operators, and the business community.
SMEDA being a dedicated and expert organization on small and medium enterprises development and PTDC being a dedicated and expert organization on tourism development shall make concerted efforts for jointly devising and organizing activities aimed at promoting the tourism sector.
