It is highly important that Pakistani products of the carpet industry are displayed in international forums for their exposure to potential international buyers, Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA) chairman said while meeting a business delegation.
Chairman of PCMEA Usman Ashraf said that “Pakistani embassies should play their role in helping Pakistani exporters find importers in foreign countries. They should also help Pakistani businessmen with placing their products in foreign stores and markets.”
He also stressed upon the government to help the carpet industry expand its operations and production capacity so as to employ more people and help the country increase its exports base. “It will also help in controlling rural migration to urban centres while providing ample working opportunities to both men and women in rural areas,” he said.
He added that “Pakistani products need to be effectively showcased in foreign trade expos. This is one strand of a successful marketing strategy where customers are found by reaching out to them. The carpet industry was not dependent on electricity or gas provision. Still, it is one of the main contributors towards the earning of foreign exchange. If government oversees the networking of local carpet manufacturers with international trade partners, there is a lot of potential that this industry can expand.”
Central leader of PCMEA Abdul Latif Malik, senior member Riyaz Ahmed, Saeed Khan, Ejaz-ur- Rehman, Malik Akbar and others were also present at the occasion. During the meeting, various problems faced by the carpet industry and various suggestions for their solution were heard and considered.
