Pakistan’s exports of goods and services to Afghanistan witnessed an increase of 4.6% during the first half (July-December) of the current fiscal year (2022-23) compared to the exports of the corresponding period of last fiscal year, WealthPK reported. According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), overall exports to Afghanistan were recorded at $251.58 million during July-December FY23 against the exports of $240.504 million during July- December FY22. On a year-on-year (YoY) basis, exports to Afghanistan also increased 15.71% from $33.097 million in December 2021 to $38.297 million in December 2022.
On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, exports to Afghanistan rose by 2.77% during December 2022 compared to the exports of $37.263 million in November 2022. Pakistan’s overall exports witnessed a decrease of 6.76% during the period under review from $15.242 billion to $14.211 billion, the SBP data shows. On the other hand, imports from Afghanistan during the period under review were recorded at $13.253 million against $90.430 million last year, showing a decline of 85.34%. On a YoY basis, imports from Afghanistan witnessed a decrease by 90.01% from $17.311 million in December 2021 to $1.729 million in December 2022.
On a MoM basis, imports from Afghanistan increased by 25.92% during December 2022 compared to the previous month. Based on trade figures, the trade of goods and services with Afghanistan witnessed an increase of 58.8% during July-December FY23 compared to the corresponding period of last year. The surplus during the period under review was recorded at $238.327 million against $150.074 million during the same period of last year.
