Crowned "Tech Destination of the Year" at GITEX Global 2024, Pakistan’s IT sector has gained significant global recognition, marking a pivotal moment in its rise on the international technology stage.

Speaking to WealthPK, Muhammad Zohaib Khan, former chairman of P@SHA, said that the presence of Pakistani tech companies at GITEX represented a substantial shift in the global perception of the nation’s IT prowess. The range of solutions, from fintech and artificial intelligence to software development, highlights the country’s inventive spirit and diverse talent pool. The attention these companies received is a key indicator of Pakistan’s ability to make a meaningful contribution to the global digital landscape. “One of the most noteworthy outcomes of GITEX was the signing of multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Pakistani tech firms and leading global tech companies.” He explained that these alliances are crucial because they not only establish important networks for collaboration but also facilitate the sharing of resources and expertise. These partnerships are essential for fostering innovation and competitiveness among firms aiming to expand and enter new markets.

“However, the tech sector still faces significant challenges. Poor connectivity remains a major issue, hindering operational efficiency and the ability to attract foreign investments. Inadequate infrastructure, such as unreliable internet access and a lack of technological resources, limits growth potential,” he noted. “Additionally, despite their diversity and expertise, the talent pool often lacks exposure to cutting-edge technology and global best practices due to educational disparities and insufficient training resources.” Speaking to WealthPK, Anees Amin, Chief Executive Officer of TechScape Private Limited, praised the dedication and hard work of Pakistan’s tech firms and their representatives at GITEX, which culminated in a tremendous success deserving of recognition. “By showcasing their capabilities on a global platform, these companies have not only boosted their own prospects but also highlighted the incredible potential of Pakistan’s IT industry.

This visibility can attract further investment and inspire the next generation of tech entrepreneurs in the country.” He expressed that the success of tech firms at GITEX is likely to have a ripple effect on the national economy. The event opened the door for a more robust IT ecosystem that could significantly aid in job creation and economic growth by drawing attention and investment from across the globe. “Furthermore, the government must actively support the IT industry to foster innovation and growth. Initiatives to encourage entrepreneurship, improve infrastructure, and enhance education are crucial to transforming the momentum seen at GITEX into long-term benefits for the country. By prioritizing these areas, Pakistan can take a major step toward establishing itself as a key player in the global tech landscape,” he concluded.
