December 23, 2022

Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Pakistan, Tarek Mohamed Dahroug has stressed on Pakistani authorities to help increase the exports of rice and halal meat from Pakistan to Egypt. He made the request while meeting with the Federal Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar in Islamabad.

He said that Pakistani authorities need to make it easier for Egyptian businessmen to import rice and halal meat from Pakistan, adding that Pakistan served better qualities of both products than the neighbouring countries. Naveed Qamar said that he will personally take the request of the Ambassador forward to ease the measures of export of rice and halal meat from the country.

He said that bilateral trade volume between Pakistan and Egypt stood at USD 636.89 million for July through June 2021-22 of which USD 104.68 million worth of exports were made from Pakistan to Egypt. He added, “Egypt exported USD 532.21 million worth of goods to Pakistan in the same months. This is below the potential level of trade that both countries can do with each other.”

Naveed Qamar also highlighted the problem of visa stamps faced by Pakistani businessmen due to which they could not participate in business fairs held in Egypt. The Ambassador responded by saying that Pakistani businessmen having visa stamps of Canada, the United States and Schengen area will be offered the facility of visa stamps on arrival into the Arab country.

Both dignitaries discussed other bilateral issues of importance and agreed to enhance trade and economic ties between the two brotherly countries. They stressed on the need to meet regularly to keep abreast of the latest developments in the areas of trade, investment and economic relations. The meeting concluded with the Minister and the Ambassador exchanging gifts and promises of future cooperation.
