National Productivity Organization (NPO) Pakistan has collaborated with APO Japan in the development of demonstration companies on the Application of Kaizen in Micro Hydropower Turbine Manufacturing. Asian Productivity Organization (APO) of Japan is one of the premier development organizations in the Asia-Pacific region. APO has undertaken many productivity-enhancing initiatives in Pakistan for the past many years.
Vice President, Sarhad Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Ejaz Afridi while talking to the media said that NPO’s collaboration with APO will be another such initiative to develop the capacity of Pakistan’s industry. He said that the current project of demonstration companies is meant to raise awareness and to promote the application of productivity concepts, tools, and techniques, including kaizen in micro hydropower turbine manufacturing, adding that it is in line with APO’s Green Productivity (GP) initiative.
He said that APO’s GP initiative is a holistic program to enhance productivity and environmental performance of the industry for sustainable socio-economic development. He continued, “this project will have a multiplier effect in the enhancement of industrial capacity along with boosting economic growth.”
Ejaz Afridi said that micro hydropower systems are a renewable energy source essential for the growth and sustenance of a green economy. “They offer stable, inflation-proof, economical, and renewable electricity supply using proven technologies.” He said that Pakistan was one of the pioneer countries to have adopted the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda after ratifying it by the parliament.
“Pakistan is endowed with enough hydel resources to develop a hydel electricity system. It can develop the capacity to generate electricity for off-grid rural residents, cottage owners, small communities, campsites, parks, and remote lodges, through such a system,” he concluded.
