By Arsalan Ali ISLAMABAD, April 28 (INP-WealthPK): Pakistan’s exports to Russia grew by 21.2 percent to $175.2 million in FY2021-22 compared to $144.5 million in the same period of last FY2020, reports WealthPK. Bilateral trade was worth $712.68 million in FY2021-22. Similarly, imports declined by 12.33 percent to $537.48 million in FY2021 compared to $613.1 million in the corresponding period of last FY2020. In FY2021, trade deficit was recorded at $362.28 million, according to the data released by the United Nations COMTRADE database on international trade. The Business Research Council (BRC) has reported that Pakistan has $2.8 billion export potential in Russia, primarily driven by textiles ($1.6 billion), agricultural products ($330 million), surgical items ($356 million), chemical & allied products ($178 million), footwear ($82 million) and plastic products ($62 million). According to the BRC, trade between Russia and Pakistan has enormous potential that needs to be explored, as exports to Russia account for only 0.65% of Pakistan’s total exports, which is quite low because Russia imports $232 billion worth of goods. The trade volume surpassed an all-time high of $758 million in 2020. Textile and textile articles were major exports to Russia in 2020, accounting for 40 percent of Pakistan’s total exports to Russia.
