By Jawad Ahmed ISLAMABAD, Feb. 22 (INP-WealthPK): The National Highway Authority (NHA) has generated a record revenue of Rs102.4 billion during the last three and a half years by ensuring good governance and austerity. Talking to WealthPK, General Manager (Revenue) Taimoor Hasan said the increase in revenue was because of elimination of corruption and introduction of e-procurement and digitalization. The total revenue has increased by more than 125%. The Authority has generated a total of Rs184.14 billion revenue since August 15, 2018, whereas Rs81.781 billion was collected during the three and a half years from 2015 to 2018.

According to the NHA performance report shared with WealthPK, Rs82.23 billion has been collected through improved governance and land retrieval, comprising Rs77.095 billion from revenue generated and roughly Rs5.129 billion from the land retrieved. Furthermore, Rs19.25 billion has been generated, including recovery of Rs15.394 billion through audit, Rs3.140 billion from savings, and Rs711.56 million from financial adjustments in bills.Source: NHA performance report
Through the austerity measures taken by the Ministry of Communications, the Authority has collected Rs890.72 million, including Rs815.24 million from savings in establishment expenditures and Rs75.48 million from auction of vehicles. The Authority built 947.37km of roads between 2013 and 2014 and 2016 and 2017, while 2,032.8km of roads were completed in three and a half years, beginning August 15, 2018. Furthermore, 1,306.63km of roads were planned between 2013-14 and 2016-17 and 7,889.11km of roads during the last three and a half years from August 15, 2018. The Authority has launched 12 projects while around 19 projects will commence during the current fiscal year. The report highlights various initiatives undertaken by the government such as e-billing, e-procurement, e-kacheri, road user information via mobile app, intelligent transport system (ITS) & e-tolling to bring transparency and improve governance in the Authority. The NHA not only plans, develops, operates and maintains national highways, motorways, expressways and strategic routes, but also supports the government in fulfilling the clean and green Pakistan objective by planting trees and offering opportunities to the youth to improve their abilities by initiating youth internship programs.
