Nestlé Pakistan is transforming farming in the scenic Hunza Valley with the launch of a pioneering regenerative agriculture program, reports WealthPK. The initiative is designed to promote sustainable food production, boost local livelihoods, and safeguard the region’s natural beauty for generations to come.

Therefore, the company, in collaboration with farmers in Hunza, is introducing regenerative agriculture practices aimed at promoting soil health, biodiversity, and water conservation. This includes core practices such as cover cropping to improve soil fertility and prevent erosion, no-till farming to maintain soil integrity and reduce carbon emissions, and integrated nutrient management using organic fertilizers and compost to enhance soil health.

Additionally, the company introduced water-efficient technologies within its operations and supported community-led water management programs. As a result,  efficient irrigation methods are being adopted to conserve water and boost crop productivity. Together, these sustainable practices are fostering resilient farming systems capable of withstanding climate challenges and supporting long-term food security.

Moreover, to support the shift toward regenerative agriculture, the company is equipping Hunza farmers with extensive training and essential resources. The initiative features on-farm demonstrations to showcase the effectiveness of sustainable practices, along with expert technical assistance in areas such as soil testing, crop selection, and pest management.

Farmers are also given access to quality seeds, organic fertilizers, and other critical inputs. Additionally, Nestlé is facilitating market linkages to help farmers secure fair prices for their produce. This implies that the company is nurturing a culture of sustainability and innovation in the Hunza Valley through this comprehensive support.

Nestlé Pakistan’s sustainability efforts go well beyond regenerative agriculture, with a significant investment of Rs4.4 billion in 2024 across various green initiatives. The company allocated Rs875 million to renewable energy projects aimed at cutting greenhouse gas emissions. Through its “Clean Gilgit Baltistan Project,” Nestlé collected over 3,100 tons of waste in 2024, reinforcing its vision of a waste-free future.

Nestlé Pakistan’s regenerative agriculture program in the Hunza Valley stands as a powerful example of its dedication to sustainable food production and community development. Through close collaboration with local farmers, the provision of vital resources, and a strong focus on environmental stewardship, the company is actively contributing to a brighter, more resilient future for the region.

Looking ahead, Nestlé Pakistan plans to expand these initiatives to other parts of the country, reinforcing its commitment to building a more sustainable and robust food system nationwide. This approach sets a strong example of sustainable development in Pakistan, demonstrating how business growth and social impact can go hand in hand.
