International mega projects like China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) have opened new avenues for Pakistan to strengthen its economy on a sustainable basis and ensure regional harmony, WealthPK reports.
According to experts, Pakistan needs to seize all these opportunities for sustainable economic growth. These mega projects can help Pakistan to meet its needs of expanding infrastructure and development.
Dr Abid Qayum Suleri, Executive Director of the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), told WealthPK that Pakistan held geostrategic significance on the world map by virtue of its geographical location as it had direct access to the warm waters of the Arabian Sea.
Pakistan has a unique position and it needs to have good diplomatic and trade relations with all powers including China, Russia, the United States and the European Union. Investors can take advantage of the geo-economics location of the country, regional connectivity, vibrant consumer market and skilled population.
He said that sustainable development and regional harmony were shared objectives of the Belt and Road Initiative and CPEC. “Pakistan needs them to bridge gaps in infrastructure, sustainability, peace and human development and rights,” he added.
Dr Hina Aslam, a research fellow at SDPI, told WealthPK that CPEC was key to trade and regional integration. “It is economically and politically beneficial for partner countries,” she added.
She said that under CPEC projects, Pakistan had already received Chinese investment worth $30 billion out of its total portfolio of $65 billion, which was rapidly developing the country and revolutionising its economy.
Dr Hina stressed the need for identifying viable development projects linked with the national plan of the country. She added that Pakistan should enter into partnerships with all the countries associated with the international mega projects. “This partnership will be a win-win situation for all,” she added.
