Govt takes steps to develop “Green Gilgit-Baltistan”

Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan Mohyuddin Wani said the Gilgit-Baltistan government has taken steps to create a "Green Gilgit-Baltistan."According to him, the government has designated five schools in each district, ideally with large fields, for planting. He stated that fruit and evergreen trees should be planted on 10% of the designated area.

He continued by saying that the secretary of agriculture would supply fruit trees and the secretary of forestry would provide evergreen plants.He suggested that the names and histories of plants be written down to help pupils understand the significance of plants. According to Mohyuddin Wani, all suitable walls on the grounds of the designated schools should have creeping plants planted along them. He stated that starting on February 5, planting will begin in the Diamar and District areas.

He stated that the Education Department will be in charge of monitoring within schools, while the Secretary of Forestry and Agriculture will offer technical assistance.According to him, district administrations would offer administrative support by creating district-level committees with members from the education, forestry, and agriculture departments that would be presided over by the relevant deputy commissioner.
