The Pakistani government is working hard to improve the energy sector through its comprehensive overhaul to provide people with affordable and sustainable energy. The statement was made by the Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik while addressing the “Thought Leaders Forum” (TLF). He said, “the government will make every effort possible to adapt the agricultural sector to the needs of sustainability. Our vision of the future is that we have to raise the living standards for the majority of people.”

He said that there are issues of demand and supply in the energy sector and that the government is doing its best to overcome these issues. He continued, “the government’s vision is to energise the whole energy sector. We will energise the poor and create the infrastructure that allows them upward social mobility. In the past, subsidies were provided in the energy sector but we are doing everything to rectify the past mistakes.”

“We need to increase the productivity of our industry and labor force because we can not work without innovation and technology infusion. We need to solve the problems of availability, affordability, and fiscal sustainability. This is the reason that we are trying to solve these problems through the construction of the TAPI pipeline from Central Asia to Pakistan,” he said. He further laid stress on the importance of exploring gas in Pakistan indigenously and developing the capacity of the country to establish its own hydrocarbons industry.

Director General of ISSI Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry and Dr Talat Shabbir, Director of China-Pakistan Study Centre, highlighted the importance of the topic in their welcoming addresses.
