Google plans to host seven Women Techmakers (WTM) events this year to empower more than 1,550 women developers across five cities in Pakistan. The seven events, including rallies, workshops, networking gatherings, and conferences, will take place between March and April and offer training in a variety of entrepreneurship topics, including leadership, technical skills, and how to get around distinct obstacles faced by women in technology.
On March 8, the International Women's Day (IWD), the first of the seven activities officially began. The activities will be hosted by regional WTM ambassadors with assistance from Google. This year's IDW theme, "Dare To Be," calls on women to have the bravery and confidence to dream big and take risks. The WTM sessions will go until April 29, 2023.
The WTM Ambassador Programme will assist female technologists, who want to make a difference and give back to their communities. They will engage with their communities as ambassadors by taking part in one or more leadership events every three months.
Google Regional Director for Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka Farhan S. Qureshi said these activities, held in association with WTM Ambassadors, not only honour the contributions made by women in technology, but will also inspire more women to work in the rapidly expanding field. He noted that over the years, WTM and its ambassadors have planned several events that have assisted women developers in realising their full potential.
According to him, the project will advance diversity, equality, and inclusion in the digital industry, which is Google's main goal. Recalling her experience, Manahil Qureshi, a participant from the previous year's programme said the speakers' sessions at the WTM were full of motivational speeches on community building, education, the women's workforce, and Pakistan's future opportunities for women in technology.
The speakers energised the gathering with lively debates and some informative question-and-answer sessions, and the atmosphere was incredibly welcoming and upbeat. The WTM activities this year expand on the excellent outcomes of the WTM sessions last year, which taught more than 800 women developers around Pakistan. The events, which were also presented in conjunction with IWD celebrations, covered vital subjects including Internet safety, coding, and presenting skills.
