By Raza Khan ISLAMABAD, March 22 (INP-WealthPk) With a substantial increase in export volume of garments, home textiles, and cotton fabrics, Pakistan’s textile exports grew by 37% in February 2022, reports INP-WealthPk. According to the data released by the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), textile goods’ exports rose to $1.69 billion in February 2022 from $1.234 billion in the same month last year, registering a massive growth of 37%. Textile exports in February also surged by 9% compared to the preceding month of January this fiscal when exports volume recorded $1.55 billion. Overall textile exports in first eight months (July-February) of the current fiscal year also grew by 26% and recorded $12.62 billion against $10 billion during the corresponding months of the last fiscal year (2020-21). Textile exports in each month of the current fiscal year surpassed exports in the corresponding month of last fiscal year, the APTMA reported. The highest monthly textile exports of the current fiscal year were $1.74 billion in November. According to the PBS, total exports in February this fiscal year rose to $2.808 billion from $2.068 billion during the corresponding month of 2020-21, registering a growth of 35.78%. According to the ministry of commerce, textile and clothing sectors’ exports remained on the top during February. Export of men’s garments rose to $460 million in February from $309 million in the same period of last year, registering a growth of 49%. With an increase of 28%, home textiles exports recorded $400 million during the period under review against $312 million in the corresponding month of last year. Export of cotton fabric also grew by 57% in February and rose to $233 million from $148 million in February last year, the ministry of commerce reported. With the volume of $81 million, women garments’ export also rose by 49% in February compared to the same month of 2020-21 when exports stood at $54 million. According to INP-WealthPk, exports of T-shirts recorded $66 million in February this year as against $47 million during the same period of last year, posting a growth of 41%. With a growth of 70%, exports of jerseys, pullovers and cardigans reached $65 million during the month under review against $38 million in the same month of last year. Exports of stockings and socks rose to $45 million in the last month from $34 million in February 2021, increasing by 34%. Abdul Razak Dawood, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Commerce and Textiles, said the target of textile exports for the current fiscal year had been set at $21 billion. “Textile exports will be enhanced up to $27 billion in the fiscal year 2022-23, $34 billion in 2023-24, and $42 billion in 2024-25”, the advisor said while announcing the Textile and Apparel Policy 2020-25 recently. According to the Textile Policy 2020-25, the textile sector would be provided with gas and electricity at competitive prices to bring them on a par with the international and regional competitors keeping in view the rising energy prices in the international market.
