Extensive tree plantation to counter effects of climate change

October 04, 2022

Extensive plantation of trees can help in countering natural disasters like floods, drought and desertification as well as other challenges posed by climate change.

A plantation activity along Hazara Motorway was jointly inaugurated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Forest Department, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and South Korean Embassy. South Korean Ambassador Shu Sangpyo, country director of IUCN, chief conservator of Watershed Management Circle and divisional forest officer attended the event.

Besides the faculty members and the students of the forestry department of Haripur University, local farmers and residents also participated in the plantation campaign. They planted different species of trees alongside the motorway.

On the occasion, a senior government official told WealthPK that planting trees is a continuous charity and the most viable way to counter the threats of climate change.

He said that Pakistan is among the 10 countries vulnerable to climate change. He said that floods, drought, desertification and other challenges could be countered through a whopping plantation.
