Chief Executive Officer of Expo Centre Lahore Maryam Khawar and President of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Kashif Anwar held a meeting to discuss ways for enhancing cooperation between the two organizations.
During the meeting, Maryam Khawar suggested organising joint ventures with the LCCI, where the expo centre would provide space and the chamber would organise an event. She said the expo center wants to support the business community so it has not increased its rates by a big margin since 2010. Just a small increase of 10% has been added to the rates because of the inactivity caused by Covid-19.
Maryam said the expo centre also required maintenance work as the government had transformed it into a hospital to cope with Covid-19, which harmed the facility. She said that bookings for the year 2023 at the Expo Center Lahore have already ended and reservations are being accepted for 2024.
Talking about the under-construction Expo Center Peshawar, she said about 75% of the work has been completed in collaboration with the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The land has also been acquired for the expo centre in Quetta and a boundary wall has been constructed around it, she added.
There are also plans for setting up two relatively small exhibition centers in Multan and Faisalabad, she said. The Pakistan Expo Centres is an authority which constructs, develops, maintains and provides space for events, she added.
Maryam proposed the establishment of a textile museum at the Expo Center Lahore and sought the cooperation of the LCCI. LCCI President Kashif Anwar agreed and said the chamber would make all-out efforts for the success of the project. He said that the LCCI was even ready to cooperate for big events like the Lahore Food Festival, which was in the planning phase. The teams from the LCCI and the expo centre can meet and make plans in this respect, he added.
